The island is rich in natural resources. The region boasts the ideal conditions for agriculture and is a colorful tropical views. The area is incredibly diverse animal and plant life typical of Phuket. In addition to the agricultural focus of the island comes from its long history associated with the production of tin.

Phuket is a huge (540 km2) which is about the size of Singapore, and is also an independent province. This is the richest area in the kingdom. The island is separated from the mainland by a narrow sea channel. Bridge connected the mainland with the island a long time. This easy access from the mainland increased popularity and traffic on the island.

The landscape is quite different: amazing, long beaches intertwine with rocky coastline and places with huge limestone cliffs overlooking the ocean. Hinterland is characterized by hills and areas with lush tropical vegetation. There are many more geographical varieties of Phuket than on any other Thai island. The first European settlers arrived in Phuket in the 16th century that Danish merchants were pearls, explore the area for new and different stocks of pearls. Later it was discovered a large cache of tin and the island quickly became famous for its tin.

Phuket is the largest city on the island. In the 19th century the huge tin deposit attracts a large number of Chinese immigrants. The Portuguese, in turn, settled on the island to transport to remote ship ports. The combination of tin of Chinese and Portuguese environment has given the island its own culture.

There is still a strong Chinese influence in this rich city. Rubber, agricultural products and seafood along with tin contribute to the main treasure of Phuket. Thais and Chinese are the original inhabitants of Phuket. They have experienced modest by land and sea.

The shores were visited by wandering Indonesian fishermen who settled for only short periods of time. Early European settlers, arriving established and its traditions. This combination of locals, sea gypsies and Europeans evolved in a special mixture. Phuket today supports this its unusual culture.
